9 DAY ACTIVE ANDES EXPEDITION
The Andes is the longest continental mountain range in the world. It is a continual range of highlands along the western coast of South America. The Andes is filled with stunning volcanos and lagoons. There is a lot to see and to do. This active Andes expedition is not only great for sport lovers, but also for people who want to learn more about the Andean culture.
This incredible adventure will take you to the Andes Mountains with various activities to do. Such as: Hiking and biking at the famous Cotopaxi Volcano, Hiking down and around the Quilotoa Lagoon, Hiking up and down the Ilinizas Norte Mountain, climbing the 5,790 meter (19,000 feet) high Cayambe Volcano, visit the subtropical village of Baños to raft, to spot waterfalls and to relax at the hot springs; and finally, visiting the beautiful historical city of Cuenca.
ACTIVE ANDES EXPEDITION
DAY 1 (L)
COTOPAXI – RUMINAHUI
On day one, you will go to Cotopaxi National Park. This park is the home to the largest active volcano located on earth, measured from the center of the earth (5900 meters). Here, you will enjoy a day of hiking and biking in the area of Cotopaxi. You will go hiking around the Ruminahui volcano, to admire its beauty. When you go mountain biking, you will have a view on all the volcanoes located in this same park. The hike around the Ruminahui mountain will take approximately 2-3 hours.

DAY 2 (B, L)
Today, you will walk the Quilotoa loop. On your way, you will see beautiful nature, local markets, communities who still keep their traditions alive, and, of course, the beautiful Quilotoa lagoon, which the locals believe has no bottom. The whole hike will take approximately 5 hours. A guide will guide you along the way. When you hike down the lake, you can also rent optional mules for the way back up ($10).

DAY 3 (B, L)
Today you will visit Ilinizas Norte. This is a good mountain to hike at. Once it formed one big crater together with the Ilinizas Sur, but by the time, they have separated. The total altitude of the Ilinizas Norte is 5,126 and has just a little snow. After having hiked up and down this mountain, you will return to your hotel.

DAY 4 (B, L, D)
In the morning, you will go to the other famous volcano in Ecuador: Cayambe. To climb up the Cayambe and to catch the sunrise here, takes two days. First, you will go to 4800 meters. Here you will have a lunch and then you will learn about all the techniques and how to use the equipment, before you can start the real climb. After this, you will have a dinner and you can take some sleep, so you can start climbing in the middle of the night, to catch the sunrise at the top of the Cayambe volcano.
DAY 5 (B, L)
CAYAMBE CLIMBING – TRANSFER TO BANOS
When you have caught the sunrise, you will descend and return to your hotel: Papagayo Norte, where you can have an optional celebration lunch. Here you have time to relax and to take a shower. Then you will be picked up by your new driver and guide, to go to Banos. On your way, you can have a stop at Otavalo, to experience this indigenous city and to stroll the market, where all the local people sell their products. To go to Banos is a long ride, but at arrival, you can rest and have a drink in town. Hotel Posada J.
DAY 6 (B, L)
The town Baños is originally named after Baños de Agua Santa, to the thermal baths, but it is more known as Baños. It is an Ecuadorian city in the Tungurahua province. The atmosphere is laid-back and relaxed in this sub-tropical climate. You will go on a rafting tour today at 9.00 AM and after lunch you will come back into town (around 14.00). You can either hire mountainbikes and go on the (“Ruta de las Cascadas”) or do any other optional activity around.

DAY 7 (B)
NARIZ DEL DIABLO
Early in the morning, you will leave Banos to drive to the South of Ecuador with your Spanish speaking driver. After about 1,5 hours, you will be in Riobamba, where you can have coffee in front of the old train station. Then you will drive further to Aloasi, to take the Nariz del Diablo train and then you will drive further to Cuenca, where you will stay at Hotel Victoria.
DAY 8 (B)
Today you will have a free day in Cuenca to explore the beautiful city by yourself. Then you will have a flight in the afternoon back to Quito and there you will be brought to your hotel close to the airport.

DAY 9 (B)
The hotel will give you a transfer to the airport to catch your flight back home. Please make sure you have your flight in the afternoon or evening in case there is a delay from your flight to Cuenca the night before. Rebecca Adventure Travel won’t take any responsibility for missed (international) flights if your flight leaves before 1 PM on Day 9.
