This relaxed Ecuador & Coast tour will show you all the highlights of this so diverse country. You won’t miss a thing for sure! During this 21 day tour, you will visit the 3 main regions of Ecuador: the Andes, the Amazon, and the Pacific Coast. The activities are adventurous and very diverse. In the Andes, where the indigenous culture is still very alive, you will visit the highlights of nature, the culture, and the colonial history. Meanwhile, you can enjoy the volcanic horizon. In the Amazon, you will try to spot as many animals as possible and you can even visit a tribe! At the Pacific Coast, you will enjoy the authentic coastal villages with lovely beaches and delicious seafood. We will make sure for you that when you go home, you will collect many amazing and special memories, and a camera full of stunning pictures. This tour can start every single day but it is possible that the exact sequence of the days will change slightly due to tour, transportation, and hotel availabilities.


DAY 1:
When you will arrive at Quito airport, you will have a private transfer to your hotel in Quito.

DAY 2 (B, L):
After your breakfast, you will be picked up at your hotel to start your Quito city tour. At first, you will go to the Panecillo Hill with its famous Virgin Mary statue. You will have an amazing view over the whole city! Then, you will visit all the highlights of beautiful Quito, like the la Basilica church, the main squares, and the San Francisco church. After a typical Ecuadorian lunch, you will go to the Mitad del Mundo Museum called Intiñan. Here you can do many interesting experiments to prove the effects the equator has on gravity. After this, you will also visit the Pululahua crater, before you will finally go back to Quito at the end of the day.

DAY 3 (B):
Today you will have time to relax and explore Quito by yourself. For example, you can visit the Teleferico, museum or do any other attractions the capital city of Ecuador offers. At 11:00 PM a semi-private night bus will bring you to Lago Agrio which takes about 6 hours.

DAY 4 (B, L, D):
From Lago Agrio you will leave at 09:00 AM to start your Amazon tour. First, you will travel by bus/truck to Tierras Orientales (2 hours), where you will start your canoe journey down the Aguarico and continue along the Cuyabeno black water river to your lodge (3 hours approximately). After having dinner your naturalist bilingual guide will give you a captivating lecture.

DAY 5 (B, L, D):
Early in the morning, you will go on a canoe excursion because during the brisk morning hours you will have the best time to see the rainforest’s thriving activity. After breakfast, you will trek in the primary rainforest with the naturalist and native guides, who will explain you more about the practical and medicinal uses of the plants. After lunch, you will go out with either paddling or motorized canoes to enjoy the beautiful landscapes and try to find species of monkeys and dolphins. After having a nice dinner at the lodge, you will venture in the forest to find several species of insects and, with a bit of luck, different kinds of snakes or frogs.

DAY 6 (B, L, D):
An early activity will allow you to enjoy the nature with a good chance to watch some playful monkeys and colorful birds. Then, you will return to the lodge for breakfast. After breakfast, you will to the forest again and the native guide will share his wealth of knowledge, showing the medicinal and practical uses of the rainforest’s flora and fauna. After your lunch, you will navigate along the Cuyabeno River where you will have a good chance of spotting the freshwater pink and grey river dolphins (Inia geoffrensis and Sotalia fluviatilis) in a spectacular scenery. After that, you will visit the Kichwa Birdwatching Tower; here above the canopy you can see breathtaking views of the surrounding rainforest and observe a variety of species. These include toucans, parrots, monkeys and many more. After dinner, you will venture out on a night excursion to search for caimans (alligator family) and nocturnal birds.

DAY 7 (B, L):
After breakfast, you will navigate once again along the Cuyabeno river towards the Kichwa Indian Community, where your naturalist guide will explain the culture and traditions of the native people, from the past to the present. Then you will travel by canoe down the river and back along the Aguarico River to Puerto Gregorio. Here, the bus will take you to Lago Agrio (arrival at 04:00 PM approximately). Back in Quito, a guide will take you back to your hotel Fuente de Piedra.

DAY 8 (B, L):
On this day, your guide will pick you up from your hotel in Quito to go to Condor park. Here you will learn about the birds and you can enjoy a bird show. After that, you will go to the Otavalo market, where you can walk through the market, enjoy the people and typical Ecuadorian products that they sell. After the market, you will go to the Peguche waterfall. Here you can enjoy the forest while you are hiking to the waterfall.

DAY 9 (B, L):
After breakfast, private transportation will pick you up to go to Cotopaxi National Park. You can choose between horseback riding, mountain biking or hiking. In the afternoon, you will be dropped off at a local country house (Hacienda) where you can see alpaca’s and enjoy the beautiful mountains.

DAY 10 (B, L):
In the morning you will be picked up by your guide to drive for about 1,5 hour to go to the Quilotoa crater lagoon which is a beautiful lagoon in the middle of the mountains with an amazing hike down the crater. After a local lunch, you will be brought to Baños, a little town in between the Andes and Amazon region where you will stay a couple of days.

DAY 11 (B):
The atmosphere in Baños is laid back and relaxed in this sub-tropical climate. Tourists love to come to Baños for outdoor activities like rafting, canyoning, canopy, mountain biking or hiking. There is a beautiful route through the most impressive waterfalls of Ecuador, Ruta de las Cascadas. You will bike this route without a guide but with a good bike and helmet. You can take the optional canopy line El Torpedo ($ 20) or bungee jump off the bridge ($ 15). At night, the town is full of entertainment like pubs, restaurants and bars, all within a walking distance.

DAY 12 (B, L):
Today you will go rafting at the Pastaza River with level III / IV rapids and in the afternoon you can visit the Swing to the End of the World (not included). In the afternoon you will have time to relax.

DAY 13 (B):
After breakfast, you will start to drive down to Cuenca through the Andes with a private driver/ guide. Additionally, it is possible to stop in Guamote, Aloasi (Nariz del Diablo train) or Ingapirca.

DAY 14 (B):
After breakfast, your guide will pick you up for a private tour through the colonial city of Cuenca. In the afternoon, you will have some free time to explore the city by yourself.

Today you will visit the Cajas National Park and in the afternoon, you will have some free time to relax or do some other activities in Cuenca.

DAY 16 (B):
After breakfast, you will be brought to Montañita in the coastal part of Ecuador. Now, your relaxing days on the beach will start! You can have optional Spanish or surf lessons there.

Montañita is a small coastal town located in the Parrish of Manglaralto in the province of Santa Elena about 180 kilometers northwest of Guayaquil.


DAY 19 (B, L):
From Montañita you will go by bus or van to Puerto Lopez (about 45 minutes), from there you will go by boat for about 1,5 hours to Isla de la Plata. During the summer months (June – August) you will have the chance to see humpback whales. Upon arrival on Isla de Plata you will do a hike to get to know the different birds on this island. After the hike, you will get a box lunch on board and can prepare yourself for optional snorkeling. Around 05:00 PM you will be back in Puerto Lopez.

DAY 20 (B):
You will have a free day to explore beautiful Montañita and its’ exotic nightlife.

  • If you like to enjoy watching Animals please get some binoculars (10×40 are much better).

  • Some activities in the Amazon depend on weather conditions, such as caiman searching.
  • Headlight, since it can get very dark during the night.
  • Inform yourself about food safety when traveling to tropical countries. Take the necessary precaution to avoid food poisoning (always wash your hands before eating, don’t eat ‘street food’, only eat peeled fruits, etc.).
