Begin 2018 Rebecca was at the Galapagos Islands where she went on the Kicker Rock snorkeling tour, in this blogpost you can read more about her experience.
At 8 in the morning, we started our adventure to Kicker Rock, located off the coast of San Cristobal Island. I was very excited about all the species we would see in the water that day. Before we went on the boat, we tried on our snorkeling gear. Six others were joining us on this tour. The day was beautiful and sunny, perfect weather to go on a boat. We left from Puerto Baquerizo, the boat ride took 45 minutes to reach our destination but it wasn’t boring at all. On our way to Kicker Rock, we saw some dolphins passing by! On the boat, we were able to drink some beverages like coffee, tea, and water.
When we arrived at Kicker Rock, we had the option to either go diving or snorkeling, and we chose to snorkel! There was one guy who decided to go diving with a guide. Kicker Rock is separated into two volcanic rocks of 140 meters tall, and there’s a channel between the rocks. This channel was our snorkeling spot for the day. Even though it was a beautiful day, the water was very agitated so it made it quite hard to swim, but it was definitely worth it. We saw Galapagos Sharks, White Tip Sharks, Black Tip Sharks, Tortoises, Rays and a lot of fish! The boat picked us up at the other side of the channel, and because the weather was nice, and the water wasn’t that rough (as it could get some times), we were able to swim through the channel not once but twice!
After our snorkel adventure, we went to Playa Escondida to have some lunch on the boat. It took us around 20 minutes to get there. On the boat, they served some salads, fish and rice. We took a small boat (zodiak) to go to the beach. We took a walk with a guide, where we learned more about the beach. Last but not least, we got some time to relax on the beach. We got back at 4 in the afternoon at Haven ‘Puerto Baquerizo’. It was another great day at the Galapagos Islands.
