This 14 day self drive tour allows you to discover Ecuador combined with being independent. Start your tour in the colonial capital of Quito. Here you will visit the historic center and then continue your way to the equator. In the next days you’ll pass the Cayambe volcano, drive through the breathtaking Andes Mountains and you’ll visit the traditional Otavalo market. You drive to the south and make a stop for several days in the sub tropical Amazon. After this you will follow the road to Banos, magnificent waterfalls and drive back to spend the day in the area of the Cotopaxi. After the stunning views of the National Park you drive towards Guamote to visit the indigenas and get to know the mysterious culture. It is possible to visit the Nariz del Diablo train and Ingapirca ruins. You’ll end up in the beautiful city of Cuenca where you can visit the National Park of Cajas. Then you drive to Guayaquil where on the way you will visit a beautiful hacienda where you can go tubing, mountain biking and horseback riding.  Enjoy the freedom and independence that this tour brings you while staying in luxurious, comfortable hotels.

DAY 1 –
Airport transfer with English speaking driver. About 50 minute ride to the centre of Quito. Overnight at Fuente de Piedra or Hotel Boutique San Joaquin (+ 30 USD p.p.p.n.).

DAY 2 (B, L)
City tour through the centre of Quito. Afterwards you will visit the equator with private transport and visit: El Panecillo, La Basilica, La Ronda and the Pululahua crater. Entrance fees and local lunch is included. Overnight at Fuente de Piedra in Quito.

DAY 3 (B)
After breakfast you will be taken outside the city where the car can be picked up. From here you will start the tour towards the North. The first stop will be made at the Cayambe, here is the local Bizcochos factory. Then you go to Lago San Pablo, where you can enjoy the beautiful views. Afterwards you can bring a visit to the Condor Rescue Park from the dutch ‘Joep’. He is committed to the preservation of the condors in the Andes. Twice a day there is an air show with the condors (closed on Mondays and Tuesdays). Hereafter you will drive to Otavalo where on Saturday there is a big native market with different kinds of handicrafts. In  addition, in the early morning there is also an animal market where they trade sheep, chickens, goats, llamas, cows etc. Overnight at Oro Azul in Cotacachi.

DAY 4 (B)
Today you will visit the Cuicocha crater and the Cotacachi leather town. Afterwards you will leave to Papallacta. On the way you will find a lot of flower farms for roses. In the afternoon you will visit the hot springs (entrance not included).

DAY 5 (B, D)
Today you drive from the high Andes mountains to the Amazon. After approximately 3 hours falling you will arrive at the sub tropic climate of the Amazon. It is interesting to see how the vegetation changes in the different regions. Just outside Tena is a beautiful Eco-lodge along the Napo River, this is Cotococha. DAY 7 (B)
Today you drive from Tena to Banos de Aqua Santa through the waterfalls trail. Along the way you can make several stops for a small hike and pictures. Close from here is an animal rescue centre in Puyo where Amazon animals are picked up by a local family. Banos is in the evening very entertaining with several restaurants and bars.

DAY 8 (B)
Today you drive about 3 hours from Banos to the Cotopaxi volcano. You can not enter the park without a local guide, you can hire the guide locally. Price is 40 USD per hour. The National Park entrance policies change regularly and Rebecca Adventure Travel is not responsible for any extra fees or other restrictions. Overnight at Hacienda Hato Verde.

DAY 9 (B)
After breakfast you drive to the south of Ecuador. After about 4 hours driving you arrive in Guamote. Along the way you will have a nice view of the highest volcano in Ecuador, Chimborazo. In Guamote you are staying at Inti Sisa, where there are a lot of social projects organized for the Indian community. They give lessons in surrounding communities and allow people to submit their building for classes in the computer lab. There is also a nursery, a homework club and they give music lessons. In the afternoon you get a cooking class from the cook of Inti Sisa.

DAY 10 (B)
Thursday is market day in Guamote. From the surrounding communities high in the Andes, thousand indiginas come together to buy and sell their goods. It is a huge vibrant and colorful market with endless photo opportunities. Of bargaining at the animal market to exotic fruits and hats, everything is traded here. You can come in the morning and enjoy the spectacle around you.
Today is also a day tour to the program where you get to see the inside of the indigenous people and the various projects. Afterwards you go to a native community in one hour along a breathtaking way through the andes, where you will visit a school. During your walk you will also visit the traditional Indian home made of adobe clay that is still used high in the mountains.

DAY 11 (B)
Today you will drive towards the south of the country. You can make a stop at Aluisi to visit the Nariz del Diabo train (journey time approximately 45 minutes). After this you can drive to the Ingapirca ruins (journey time approximately 45 minutes). And from here you can drive to Cuenca (1.5 hour). Overnight at Hotel Victoria.

DAY 12 (B)
Today you will bring a visit to the centre of Cuenca and the National Park Cajas. Overnight at Hotel Victoria.

DAY 13 (B, L)
Today you drive from Cuenca towards Guayaquil. After about 2,5 hours you will arrive at Hacienda la Danesa, a very beautiful house where you can have lunch, horseback riding, tubing, mountain biking and hiking. Also it is possible to follow a workshop cocoa or to learn milking cows. Lunch and activities are included (excl. horseback riding). La Danesa is about 1.5 hours from Guayaquil. This is the final piece of your travel by own car, enjoy it!

DAY 14 (B, L)
