Ecuador Multiple day tour, Coast town Montañita



This 14 days self-drive tour allows you to discover Ecuador combined with being independent. The rent of the car is included, after you pick up the car, you will start your tour in the colonial capital of Quito where you will visit the historic center and then, you’ll continue your way to the equator. In the next days, you will pass the Cayambe volcano, drive through the breathtaking Andes Mountains and visit the traditional Otavalo market. You will drive to the south and make a stop for several days in the subtropical Amazon. After this, you will follow the road to Baños, magnificent waterfalls and drive back to spend the rest of the day in the area of the Cotopaxi. After the stunning views of the National Park, you’ll drive towards Guamote to visit the indigenous and get to know their mysterious culture. It is also possible to visit the Nariz del Diablo train and Ingapirca ruins. You’ll end up in the beautiful city of Cuenca where you can visit the National Park of Cajas. Then you’ll drive to Guayaquil where you will visit a beautiful hacienda on the way. You can go tubing, mountain biking and horseback riding there. DAY 1:
After your arrival in Quito Airport, an English speaking driver will pick you up to bring you to your hotel, which is located in the center of Quito.

DAY 2 (B, L):
After having breakfast, you will explore the beautiful center of Quito through a city tour. Afterwards, you will visit the equator with private transport and also get the chance to see the highlights of Quito, like El Panecillo, La Basilica, La Ronda and the Pululahua crater. Later, you’ll enjoy a typical local lunch and can relax the rest of the day or explore the city by yourself.

DAY 3 (B):
Today, you will be picked up to start your tour to the North. The first stop will be at the Cayambe, where there is a nice local Bizcochos factory. Then, you will go to Lago San Pablo, where you can enjoy beautiful views. Afterwards, you will visit the Condor Rescue Park. The owner Joep, who is Dutch is committed to the preservation of the condors in the Andes. Twice a day, there is an air show with the condors (except on Mondays and Tuesdays). Later, you will drive to Otavalo where on Saturdays there is a big native market with different kinds of handicrafts. In addition, there is also an animal market where they trade sheep, chickens, goats, llamas, cows and more.

DAY 4 (B):
After your breakfast, you will visit the Cuicocha crater and the Cotacachi leather town. On the way to Papallacta, you will find a lot of flower farms for roses. In the afternoon, you will visit the hot springs and enjoy the beautiful view there.

DAY 5 (B, D)
Today you will drive from the high Andes mountains to the Amazon. After approximately 3 hours driving you will arrive at the sub-tropic climate of the Amazon. It is interesting to see how the vegetation changes in the different regions. Just outside Tena is a beautiful Eco-lodge along the Napo River, which is also called Cotococha. Here you will stay two nights and take part in various excursions.

DAY 6 (B, L, D)
On this day, you will stay at Cotococha and enjoy the beautiful atmosphere of the Amazon.

DAY 7 (B)
After having a large breakfast, you will drive from Tena to Baños de Aqua Santa through the waterfalls trail. Along the way, you can make several stops for a small hike and pictures. Close to that is an animal rescue center in Puyo where Amazon animals are picked up by a local family. Additionally, in the evening Baños is very entertaining with several restaurants and bars.

DAY 8 (B)
Today, you will drive about 3 hours from Baños to the Cotopaxi volcano. You can not enter the park without a local guide, but you can always hire the guide locally. The National Park entrance policies change regularly and Rebecca Adventure Travel is not responsible for any extra fees or other restrictions. ( + $ 40 p.p)

DAY 9 (B)
After breakfast, you will drive to the southern part of Ecuador. After about 4 hours driving you will arrive in Guamote. Along the way, you will have beautiful views of the highest volcano in Ecuador, Chimborazo. In Guamote, you will stay at Inti Sisa, where there are a lot of social projects organized by the Indian community. They give lessons in surrounding communities and allow people to submit their building for classes in the computer lab. Besides, there is also a nursery, a homework club and they give music lessons. In the afternoon, you will have cooking class from the cook of Inti Sisa.

DAY 10 (B)
Every Thursday, there is a famous market in Guamote. From the surrounding communities high in the Andes, thousands of indigenous people come together to buy and sell their goods. It is a big and vibrant and colorful market with endless photo opportunities. From bargaining at the animal market to exotic fruits and hats, everything is traded there. Besides, you will also have the chance to explore more about the culture of the indigenous people. Afterwards, you will visit a native community and do a one hour walk along a breathtaking way through the Andes, where you will visit a school. During your walk, you will also visit the traditional Indian home made of adobe clay that is still used high in the mountains.

DAY 11 (B)
Today you will drive towards the south of the country. You can make a stop at Aluisi to visit the Nariz del Diablo train (journey time approximately 45 minutes). After this, you can drive to the Ingapirca ruins (journey time approximately 45 minutes). Finally, you will drive to Cuenca which takes about 1.5 hours.

DAY 12 (B)
After having breakfast, you will visit the center of Cuenca and the National Park Cajas.

DAY 13 (B, L)
Today you will drive from Cuenca to Guayaquil. After about 2,5 hours, you will arrive at Hacienda la Danesa, a very beautiful house where you will have lunch. Besides, you can decide between several optional activities, like horseback riding, tubing, mountain biking or hiking (Except horseback riding, the activities are included). Additionally, it is possible to follow a workshop cocoa or to learn milking cows. The final stop of your travel will be La Danesa, which is about 1.5 hours off from Guayaquil.

DAY 14 (B, L)
